Introduction
Last Lord’s Day (February 12, 2023), we took an initial foray into Deuteronomy 6:4-9. The point of the message was that the one true and living God is worthy of your unqualified love. Verse 4 yielded stunning details about the character of YHWH, the God of Israel. This Lord’s Day we will explore the rest of the paragraph and consider our response to such a God.
The elements of the service express our response of loving praise to this great God.
PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP
Prelude
Call to Worship: Psalm 117:1-2
Invocation
PROCLAMATION
Hymn 59 All Creatures of our God and King
Note: “Let all things their Creator bless, And worship him in humbleness.” This hymn reminds us that God is Creator and Owner of all. It summons all Creation to honor Him with praise.
Worship through Giving
Hymn 60 Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above
Note: When we know the true and Living God, he stills every “faithless murmur.” Knowing him gives us confident assurance that “all is just and all is right.” Therefore, we sing praise to the One who reigns above.
Scripture Reading Psalm 111:1-10
Note: The psalmist gave us a long list of the works of our great God and then said, “I will give thanks with my whole heart.” Praise is the instinctive response of those who know and love this great God.
Pastoral Prayer
Hymn 463 Be Thou My Vision
Note: The “high King of heaven” is the subject of this hymn. It is a prayer that he will fill our vision so that we will give him his rightful place as “first in my heart.”
Message: The Only Living and True God, Pt. 2
Deuteronomy 6:4-9

RESPONSE
Hymn (Insert) Give Praise to God
Note: The Lord God works his will and accomplishes his purposes according to his own plan for his own glory. Even though we do not and cannot comprehend his ways, we know that things good and true come only from God. Therefore, we sing “give praise to God alone.”
