Introduction
The sermon passage for this Lord’s Day describes Paul’s full commitment to serve his Lord (2 Corinthians 6:3-10). Military metaphors often shaped the apostle’s description of Christian service. This passage is no exception. It is reminiscent of the admonition Paul gave Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:3-4:
Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits,
since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.
The hymns selected for our worship service carry the theme of the good soldier of Christ Jesus.
