Introduction

In the sermon text for this Lord’s Day, Paul finishes the “great digression” in which he has revealed the plan of God for the work of the church and his own role in that plan (2:14—7:4). He appealed to the Corinthians for mutual affection in 6:13: “open wide your hearts.” Here he repeats the appeal, “make room in your hearts for us.” It was a call to reject his opponents and to stand with him in the great work of God’s mission.

The hymns in this service will offer praises to the one who saved us and whom we service. They will also include a theme of Christian unity and love that must be evident in the congregation.
