Introduction
Paul concludes his letter in a familiar way. He lists a series of final commands, offers greetings, and pronounces a benediction in the form of a prayer. Though familiar, his words are neither routine nor wasted. They give both direct and indirect guidance to help the church move past the immaturity and disobedience that made this painful letter necessary.
Throughout his letter, Paul fought for his authority as an apostle because the message of Word of god was at stake. He relentlessly challenged the church to function as the “pillar and foundation of the truth.” Our hymns will reflect the indispensable nature of the Word of God and the value of the church in God’s plan to disseminate his message.
