Faith Puts On Work Clothes: A Study of James

James 2:14 (ESV)
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?

You should study James with us!

Why? Here are three reasons:

It is truly relevant.

It has become a fad for churches to talk about relevance.  They are determined to convince people that what they do really matters.  Unfortunately, many of those who talk about relevance have become irrelevant in God’s sight because they are trying to convince the world of their message by becoming like the world.

You will find none of that in James. His letter assaults superficial worldliness that often passes for faith. Nothing could be more relevant.

It is intensely practical.

“Faith Puts on Work Clothes” reflects James vision faith in action.  The letter show that genuine faith lays claim to the way we live.  James unites faith and works in a inseparable vision of the Christian life.

True Christianity is a fusion of faith and works, belief and behavior.

It is personally convicting.

Someone once said, “I love James,” and in the same breath, “I hate James.”  Do you know what he meant?  He found the content of James is interesting, stimulating, challenging, invigorating but also found it bruising. Its broad range of topics challenge the comfort and complacency of every believer.

As we work through James together, you will frequently find yourself saying, “Wow, that’s great stuff—wait a minute.  James is talking to me.”  But don’t let that deter you because true faith goes hand in glove with work!

We meet at Summit Academy at 6:30 pm. The evening begins with refreshments and conversation and ends by 8:00 pm. The study runs concurrently with our AWANA program, so bring your children.
